Have You Ever Read A Digital Apology, A Digital Apology....
(with apologies to the Lovely Eggs)

It was only brought to our notice recently that Flaming Tunes had been made available as a digital download by our distributor ReR since its release in May 2009. This was done without our knowledge and authorisation.

We released Flaming Tunes for commemorative reasons, as well as for its own intrinsic value, and because of that we were very careful to make a quality production in terms of audio, artwork and keeping as a whole the only collection of music that Gareth intended for release. Had we decided to release a digital edition it would have been presented in that way, and we feel we owe an apology to those of you who may have purchased the download, to Flaming Tunes musicians and collaborators and to the memory of Gareth Williams.

Flaming Tunes

Flaming Tunes was a collaboration between Mary Currie and Gareth Williams, and was originally released on cassette in 1985. The album was recorded after Gareth left This Heat in the early 1980’s and returned from the first of several trips to India. Except for its initial release there has been no official edition of FT, although a bootleg CD from the late 1990’s included the tape in its entirety. It was misleadingly described as "This Heat’s final demo recordings" which was a great cause of annoyance to Gareth.

He considered the Tunes album a deliberate attempt to create a music with a different mood and texture to the often harsh and uncompromising This Heat recordings, whilst giving full reign to his eclectic tastes and distinctive musical stylings.

You can hear some extracts of the album here.

Flaming Tunes Inner Cover

At long last, we are happy to announce the release of a definitive and authorised digital edition of Flaming Tunes, which is now available on Life and Living Records.

Where possible we have gone back to the original masters, which have been lovingly baked to bring you the the best possible sound quality, hopefully matching Gareth’s exacting standards.
